Interventions Call for Submissions

Interventions, the blog for the Wendland-Cook Program in Religion and Justice at Vanderbilt Divinity School, is a space for students, scholars, clergy, and activists to write on practical and theological matters related to religion and justice.

Interventions invites submissions for a forum that will run concurrently with a series of webinars for church leaders, religious studies scholars, and others interested in the intersections of economic justice and reproductive justice for a post-Roe America. The webinar series, “Reproductive & Economic Justice in a Post-Roe Landscape: Changing the Conversation in Christian Communities,” will broadcast every Monday, Sept. 26 to Oct. 24, 2022.

We invite contributions on any of the following subjects:

  • ethical analyses of the economic impacts of a post-Roe world on communities of color and other marginalized populations (trans people, undocumented immigrants, and others);

  • pastoral perspectives on how church communities can better respond to economic, spiritual, and other needs in light of increasing restrictions or bans regarding abortion healthcare;

  • the ethics of proposing adoption as a moral and economic solution to unwanted pregnancy;

  • theological or biblical engagement with and understandings of the principles of reproductive justice;

  • reproductive justice, abortion rights, and economic justice as common moral visions and drivers of action;

  • spiritual and religious resources energizing activism, resistance, and agency in reproductive justice, abortion rights, and economic justice;

  • reflection on reproductive labor in the context of economic inequalities in America and global capitalism.

These essays should be no longer than 600-800 words and should strive to distill complex theological and theoretical ideas for a wide public readership.  Instead of footnotes, provide an inline link to the text (consult the style guide for further instructions).

An abstract of 250 words should be submitted no later than August 1, 2022, using the form below. Abstracts should be prepared for anonymous review, with all references to the writer’s identity removed.

If your organization would like to co-sponsor this series of events, please be in touch with Rev. Dr. Aaron Stauffer, aaron.k.stauffer@vanderbilt.edu.
